Triple Crown-Altamont Girls Win Third Championship of Year
The Altamont School’s girls varsity Outdoor Track Team is Alabama’s 2023 class 3A state champion after competition in Cullman May 5-6! Merrit Fulmer, who set a new school record in April, was the individual state champion in pole vault. The team earned 72 points at the state championship in Cullman, with Houston Academy (66 points) and Westminster School (63 points) in the second and third places. The girls were section champions as well.

The latest team victory completes a triple crown for the Altamont girls this school year, following state titles in cross country in November and indoor track in February. “This was an incredible feat for our girls to accomplish,” said Altamont Latin teacher and coach Jamie Rediker. “Our veteran runners and leaders were joined this year by some new athletes who made an immediate impact,” Rediker said. “Cross country set the tone with a strong core of distance runners. Indoor track incorporated several key field and mid-distance athletes. Outdoor track brought everything together to culminate in this amazing achievement by our girls team.”

Altamont’s boys varsity Outdoor Track Team finished the season solidly in the top half of its tournament, 12th of 40 teams, in addition to winning their section championship.
