Debaters Shine At National Tournament
Altamont School debaters Serena Blutter and Johnny Stumpff wrapped the year with an impressive showing in the Policy Division of the National Speech and Debate Association Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa, last week. The pair ended their run on day three, but their 9-3 record in the preliminary rounds made them serious contenders for the national title. Stumpff earned 11th place speaker honors out of all of the qualified debaters in the division. Blutter was one of very few rising sophomores in the tournament.

To qualify for nationals, teams must place in the top of their districts. Altamont coach Jim Sydnor noted that only 360 students nationwide achieved that ranking in the Policy Division.
