Varsity and JV Scholars Bowl Teams Headed to State Tournament

Altamont's Varsity and Junior Varsity Scholars Bowl teams both excelled at the Alabama Scholastic Competition Association (ASCA) District Tournament, qualifying for the Division I State Tournament.

The ASCA JV District Tournament was held Jan. 11 at the University of Alabama Gadsden Center. JV team members Kuleen Sasse, Ahad Bashir, Ben Tang, Sameer Sultan, Shawn Goyal, and Hannah Ashraf qualified Altamont for the State Tournament, which will be held at Hoover High School on Saturday, February 24. JV students representing Altamont at the State Tournament will be Ahad Bashir, Ben Tang, Kuleen Sasse, Aly Pabani, Sameer Sultan, and Maaz Zuberi.

The ASCA Varsity District Tournament was held Feb. 9 at Jefferson State Community College. Varsity team members Asher Desai, Max Renfro, Ben Tang, Isabel Coleman, Kuleen Sasse, and Elise Solazzo qualified Altamont for the State Tournament by winning every round and earning the Division I District title along with Hoover High School and Spain Park High School. The Varsity team will represent Altamont at the State Tournament April 13 at Jefferson State Community College.

Both the Varsity and JV Scholars Bowl teams competed in Division I, which includes large public schools such as Vestavia, Mountain Brook, and Homewood, as well as private schools such as Indian Springs and Westminster.
