At the Alabama State Science Fair, held on the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) campus April 7-8, Amrita Lakhanpal won 1st place in her category (Biomedical Engineering, Computational Biology and Bioinformatics). She also won an ASEF Directors Award scholarship to UAH. Isla Steinman placed third overall in the Junior Division for Health and Medicine. Her project located two phages (bacteria killing viruses) in the environment. She also received a special award from Boeing Science and Technology for being "Best in Tech."
Altamont's Speech and Debate Team had an outstanding performance at the Alabama State Tournament, held at Chelsea High School April 7-8.
Results are as follows:
Varsity - David Zell/Izzy Coleman 2nd place; Anna Kate Lembke/Chandni Patel 5th place
JV – Sara Catherine Cook/Shawn Goyal 3rd place
Novice - William Coleman/Sameer Sultan 3rd place
Middle School – Jane Grey Battle/JoJo Kelly 2nd place
In individual events, Zoe Zahariadis placed 5th in oral interpretation and 6th in impromptu speaking; Helen Tynes placed 6th in oral interpretation.
