The Altamont School's outdoor track and field team wrapped its 2022 season in great style May 6-7, with the girls finishing as 2A state runner-up and the boys finishing 4th in a close race for the top at the AHSAA State Championships in Cullman, Alabama. Individual athletes also earned state champion and other top honors:

Jack Nichols – State champion 3200m, 2nd place 1600m

Carson Hicks – state champion 200m and long jump, 2nd place 400m, 3rd place 100m

Merritt Fulmer – 2nd place pole vault (also surpassed the 2A state record)

Frances Overton – 2nd place 1600m, 3rd place 800m and 3200m

Jack Langloh – 2nd place 110m hurdles

Harris Strang – 3rd place 3200m

This was a farewell performance for a few of Altamont's senior athletes. The school honored all its graduating track and field seniors at Senior Track Night May 3. After senior/parent recognition, the teams entertained attendees with 4x100 relays using fruit and vegetables in place of batons!
