The Altamont School's debate team completed its 2021-22 season at the National Speech and Debate Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky, June 12-17. Altamont qualified six debaters, and the partnership of Pranav Goli and Wesley Sudarshan ultimately represented the school at the nationals.

Speech and debate teacher Jim Sydnor said Goli and Sudarshan worked hard to prepare for the honor. “The duo spent the last two months researching issues surrounding a potential US-Taiwan bilateral trade agreement,” Sydnor said, “delaying the start of their break to prepare for what is considered the official national championship tournament.

The work was rewarded. Goli and Sudarshan debated qualified teams from districts across the nation and won seven out of 12 ballots, just one ballot shy of placing in elimination rounds. They also were the highest scoring team from Alabama.
