Congratulations Class of 2019!

On Thursday, May 23, 2019, The Altamont School held its 43rd graduation ceremony. Fifty seniors earned their Altamont diplomas. The salutatory address was given by Asher Desai, and the valedictory address was given by Vivek Sasse. Head of School Chris Durst delivered the graduation address.

Two special awards were presented at the ceremony: the Brooke Hill Cup and the J. Frank Rushton Cup. The Brooke Hill Cup, the highest honor an Altamont girl may receive, was awarded to Amrita Lakhanpal. The J. Frank Rushton Cup, the highest honor an Altamont boy may receive, was awarded to James Dixon. These awards are voted on by the entire student body, faculty, and athletic coaches; they honor sportsmanship, leadership, scholarship, athletic ability, integrity, and participation in school activities.

The afternoon ceremony included memorable musical performances, both vocal and instrumental, by several graduating seniors. Members of the Class of 2019 were accepted to more than 95 colleges and universities and will matriculate from the following institutions: Auburn University, Barnard College, Baylor University, Belmont University, Birmingham-Southern College, Boston University, Brown University, College of Charleston, Dartmouth College, Dickinson College, Duke University, Elon University, Georgetown University, Grinnell College, Mississippi State University, Northeastern University, Northwestern University, Oglethorpe University, Rhodes College, Samford University, Sewanee: The University of the South, Spring Hill College, Texas Christian University, Tulane University, University of Alabama-Birmingham, University of Alabama-Birmingham EMSAP, University of Alabama-Huntsville, University of Alabama-Tuscaloosa, University of California-Los Angeles, University of Chicago, University of Colorado-Boulder, University of Denver, University of Georgia, University of Montevallo, University of Pennsylvania, University of South Alabama, University of Virginia, Vanderbilt University, and Washington and Lee University.
