On Feb. 12, 2021, Altamont honored Renaissance Scholarship, Inc (RSI) for National Philanthropy Day, an annual observation to celebrate charitable activities. Since 2018, Altamont has partnered with RSI to provide educational opportunities to students who otherwise might never be able to attend. Since that time, 13 students have attended our school with the help of a scholarship from RSI bringing new perspectives and energy to our student body. For the 2021-22 school year, RSI awarded 63 scholarships including scholarships for 10 Altamont students.
RSI is a scholarship granting organization that operates under the Alabama Accountability Act of 2013. It allows income-eligible families whose children are zoned to failing schools to apply for scholarships to attend private schools. Donors who contribute to a scholarship granting organization such as RSI may claim a dollar-for-dollar tax credit up to 50% of their Alabama tax liability, not to exceed $50,000. Corporations may also receive a dollar-for-dollar tax credit up to 50% of their Alabama tax liability with no maximum. A tax credit must be reserved with the Alabama State Department of Revenue before the contribution is sent to RSI.
RSI scholarships provide life-changing educational opportunities to deserving students across our state. We hope you will consider a financial donation to RSI to support Alabama students in need. You can find donation instructions in this brochure and at www.renaissancescholarships.org.
