Altamont Art Students Win State Council Awards
Julie Beckwith

Congratulations to 11th grader Sophie Cornelius and 6th grader Mady Kirkpatrick who won Alabama State Council on the Arts Visual Arts Achievement Program awards. In our district, Sophie won for best high school drawing overall, and Mady won for best middle school printmaking overall. Their work will travel to the state competition in Montgomery and will be recognized at the state capitol in late April.

The Alabama State Council on the Arts Visual Arts Achievement Program provides local and state recognition for student achievement in the visual arts. The program is designed to offer encouragement to young artists, showcase their work and offer opportunities for advanced training beyond high school. Students in grades 6 through 12 that are participating in arts programs within their academic institutions are eligible to enter the competition.

Congratulations Sophie and Mady!
