- Fine Arts at Altamont
Photography is just one of the many ways students can express their creativity at Altamont.
Altamont enjoys a long tradition of excellence in the arts built not only on instruction in both lower and upper school but on strong individual participation in extracurricular activities. In their involvement in the vital humanizing sphere of the arts, as well as in athletics and in academics in general, Altamont students demonstrate once again the full engagement and commitment that distinguish them as a group from their peer high school groups throughout the country.
Through a rich offering of electives and with the nourishing devotion of our faculty, we encourage all Altamont students to explore and develop their talents and interests in music, theatre, the visual arts, photography, and oral communication.
Each year, students perform in two main stage theatrical productions and winter and spring orchestral and choir concerts. Photography and art students submit their works to a variety of competitions and mount annual student shows in the spring. Debaters and public speakers compete throughout the year in local, regional, and national competitions. Details about each of these areas follow.

A Midsummer's Night's Dream April 2007
The theater department produced a marvelous version of A Midsummer’s Night’s Dream on April 20-22,2007. It was a remarkable evening of drama. Theater director, Martha Summey said “I have waited a long time to produce my favorite Shakespearean play, and all the elements have come together at The Altamont School.” She had her “dream cast” with Evan Miller as Puck, and Alex Kahn as Bottom, joined by Hannah Ware and Dallas Henderson as Titania and Oberon, the King and Queen of the Fairies. The young lovers Helena and Demetrius were played by Amelia Haas and Phil Lovinguth. The other young couple Hermia and Lysander, was played by Collier Brown and Jack Williamson. Steven Johanson played Flute.
